It has a swollen base, then fusiform, sulcate, dark-colored stems bearing 2 to 7 near-apical, ovate, thinly stiff leaves. It produces pink to purple-colored flowers that bloom from late winter to early spring. The petals can range in color from pink to white, purple, and lavender.
